Brock's Hill Apple Day, 2009

The Apple Day at Brock's Hill, Oadby, took place on 11 Oct 09, organised by Helen Gregory.

Hundreds of visitors passed through between 11pm and 4pm - most were very enthusiastic about apples, and from our vantage point on the Leicestershire Heritage Apples desk we saw lots of interest from people of all ages and backgrounds.

In our room was cider sampling, apple identification (we all had a go, though the 'expert' from the Northern Orchards Group really knew his stuff), apple recommendations, an apple press (for hire and for purchase), Mark Shirley and his Rockinghamforest Cider; Leicestershire apples on sale, organic versus non-organic (an interesting comparison - Howgate Wonder grown in two different ways), lots of apple displays; some red-fleshed apples (including some brought in by a visitor).

All-in-all an excellent Apple Day, the fifth such event organised by Helen Gregory. Our thanks to her for organising such an interesting day.
